Animal Powers

The great mythologist Joseph Campbell wrote a multi-volume
treatise on Shamanism and called it "The Way of the Animal
Powers." Hence the name of this website, which is about
21st Century Shamanism -- not spells and rituals, but a deep
reworking and extension of Consciousness, that grows not only
by going "up" into so-called "higher realms", but more importantly by going DOWN into the evolution of sensation and
thought.

A spectacular illustration of an animal power: I read this in the San Francisco Chronicle, c.1992: A couple in France had a dog named Fido. They decided to start a restaurant in northern Spain, and didn't want to take Fido along, so they gave him to their neighbor. About a week after they moved to Spain, the neighbor called and told them that Fido had run away. No one saw the dog again, until, a year and a half later, Fido showed up at his original owner's new home in Spain, worn-out and bedraggled. The dog had managed to navigate his way over the Pyrenees Mountains and made a journey of well over 1000 miles on his own, to a place he had never been before; indeed he had never been outside of France before he made his lonely journey to find his original owners. What human on this planet could perform a feat of navigation like this?! And yet many animals have performed similar "miracles" (see "Lifetide" by Lyall Watson, a book that inspired me tremedously).

Hypnosis and the Ancient Brain:

*
How was a dog able to perform this mind-blowing feat of navigation? Certainly not with the big brain that humans have. Dogs have a Hindbrain (known as the Reptile Brain), a Limbic System (known as the Old Mammalian Brain), and only a very rudimentary Neocortex, which is what most people visualize when they think of the brain, those two huge convoluted Cerebral Hemispheres. So Fido had to be using pretty much just those two evolutionarily ancient sections of the brain, the Hindbrain and the Limbic System, to perform his seemingly magical navigation to a place he had never been before, and how the hell could he know where his original owners had moved to anyway? He wasn't using a colossal Neocortex like we use to figure things out. He used the Ancient Brain, in a way that we humans don't yet have the slightest idea how to do. I am using hypnosis and my decades of learning in several different fields to figure this out, and other similarly fantastic animal powers, such as the fact that a 60-pound baboon is much, much stronger than a 200-pound human. This will be 21st-Century Shamanism, rooted in solid and thorough and risk-taking investigation. Let us go way back in evolutionary time, which is to say way down deep into the Ancient Brain, and re-discover our Animal Powers.
